Jonathan S. Wolfson Chief Executive Officer |
Jonathan Wolfson is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Solazyme, where he oversees the management and strategic direction of the company. Prior to Solazyme, Mr. Wolfson held a variety of positions in finance, business and law. He was most recently the Vice President of Finance and Business Development for 7thOnline, a venture-backed supply chain software company where he was responsible for overseeing partnering, finance and the development and implementation of corporate strategy, which resulted in annualized revenue growth of over 100% during his tenure.
Prior to that, Mr. Wolfson was co-founder, President and Chief Operating Officer of InvestorTree, a financial software and services firm. He has also worked as an investment banker for Morgan Stanley and as a business/legal analyst for Triarc Companies.
Beyond his responsibilities for Solazyme, Mr. Wolfson is dedicated to enabling the adoption of a low carbon energy future. He sits on the board of the Clean Economy Network, a green business advocacy association. He provides additional insight as an advisory board member to the Next Generation Bio-Based Chemicals Summit, a cross-sector of oil and alternative fuel resources. In addition, Mr. Wolfson is a member of the board of directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and is on the governing board of BIO’s Industrial and Environmental Section. In September of 2009, Mr. Wolfson also accepted the “Green Leap” award from the Clinton Global Initiative for his commitment to commercializing Solazyme’s breakthrough technology for renewable oil production for fuel and for food. It is through these commitments and board memberships that Mr. Wolfson furthers the evolution of the advanced biofuels and biomaterials industries and continues his commitment to clean, renewable energy and carbon pollution reduction.
Mr. Wolfson holds J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from the NYU School of Law and the NYU Stern School of Business. Additionally, he spent several years as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Economics at Hunter College of the City University of New York.

Harrison F. Dillon, Ph.D. President and Chief Technology Officer |
Harrison Dillon is the President, Chief Technology Officer, and co-founder of Solazyme, overseeing technology strategy, intellectual property and legal affairs. His scientific training in the field of microbial genetics began in the Microbiology and Immunology Department at Emory University. His later research, including X-ray crystallography and quantitative trait loci characterization, was performed under the direction of Dr. Jean-Marc Lalouel, a Howard Hughes Investigator and Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Utah, where Dr. Dillon received his Ph.D. in genetics.
Dr. Dillon formerly managed the biotechnology patent portfolio of the University of Utah in the University’s Technology Transfer Office. Dr. Dillon received a J.D. cum laude from Duke University School of Law and is licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the State Bar of California and has worked as an Associate in the Biotechnology Group at Townsend and Townsend and Crew, and has authored many articles in scientific, business, and legal journals.

Tyler W. Painter

Tyler Painter is the Chief Financial Officer of Solazyme. Most recently, Mr. Painter acted as interim Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller for PMC-Sierra (PMCS), a leading provider of broadband communications and storage semiconductors, where he was instrumental in managing the finance organization through a period of significant transition while bolstering financial controls.
Prior to PMC-Sierra, Mr. Painter spent over six years at Wind River Systems (WIND), a publicly traded billion-dollar device software company, as VP of Finance responsible for Treasury, Tax and Investor Relations. While at Wind River, he earned several national awards for implementing industry-leading approaches to finance operations, including the Association of Finance Professional’s 2006 Pinnacle Award for Risk Management and the 2007 Top 5 Best Corporate Governance Practices in the U.S, awarded by Investor Relations Global Rankings.
Before Wind River, Mr. Painter was a key member of the management team at Carsdirect, growing the company from pre-revenue to $150 million in revenue in two years and raising over $300 million in private equity. Earlier in his career, Mr. Painter held various finance roles at Gap, Inc.
Mr. Painter brings 16 years of financial and operational management experience across private, public and Fortune 500 companies to Solazyme. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. He is actively involved with a number of professional affiliations including the Association of Financial Professionals and the National Investor Relations Institute.

Arthur Grossman, Ph.D.

Arthur Grossman is the Chief of Genetics at Solazyme. Dr. Grossman is a
world renowned scientist and has spent over twenty-five years in
microalgal research. He has been awarded both the prestigious Darbaker
prize for algal research and in 2009 he was awarded the Gilbert Morgan
Smith Medal for excellence in published research on marine or freshwater
algae. The award, which only recognizes one scientist every three years,
was established through the Helen P. Smith Fund and is awarded by the
National Academy of Sciences.
Currently, Dr. Grossman shares his time between Solazyme and the Carnegie
Institution/Stanford University where he is a Senior Staff Scientist at
Carnegie and a Professor at Stanford.
Dr. Grossman's role as a member of Solazyme's management team includes
oversight of current R&D projects and the development of strategies for
initiating and implementing new projects. Prior to becoming a member of
the management team, Dr. Grossman was the Chairman of Solazyme's
Scientific Advisory Board and has been a key part of the R&D team since
2004.
Dr. Grossman received a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from Indiana University
and performed postdoctoral research at The Rockefeller University.

Peter J. Licari, Ph.D
Senior Vice President of Research and Development |
Peter Licari is the Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Solazyme. Dr. Licari has over 20 years experience in biochemical engineering and bioprocessing, most recently as a Senior Vice President at Kosan Biosciences, Inc. where his responsibilities included development and manufacturing operations from 1998 - 2008. Before joining Kosan, Dr. Licari was Director of Vaccine Manufacturing and Development at Massachusetts Biologic Laboratories. From 1993 to 1996, Dr. Licari served as Senior Scientist at BASF Bioresearch Corporation, responsible for fermentation process development. After receiving his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a Minor in Biology from the California Institute of Technology in 1992, he joined Merck as an Engineering Associate. In 2005 he obtained an M.B.A. degree from Pepperdine University.

Adrian Galvez
Vice President of Process and Development |
In his role, Adrian Galvez is responsible for initializing and managing processes integral to producing algal oils at commercial levels for Solazyme’s market areas. With a technical background in chemical and biomass processing, Galvez oversees major projects for Solazyme, including plant development, operations and maintenance functions.
Prior to joining Solazyme, Galvez was the chief technology officer at EdeniQ Inc., a cellulosic biofuels company, directing all of the company’s technology efforts from concept to commercialization. At EdeniQ, a spinoff of Altra Biofuels, Galvez served as senior vice president of technology and technical services, responsible for the company’s R&D program, new technology initiatives and customer technical services. In both positions, Galvez was instrumental in increasing efficiencies, yields and profits.
Galvez has also held technical and engineering positions with Chippewa Valley Ethanol and Delta-T Corp., where he was responsible for multi-million dollar expansion projects for chemical and biomass processing. He spent his early years at Archer Daniel Midland and Grain Processing Corp., managing the production of alcohol for the beverage, industrial and fuel markets.

David Isaacs
Senior Vice President of Government Relations |
David Isaacs is the Senior Vice President of Government Relations of Solazyme, responsible for formulating and executing the company’s government strategy at the federal and state level. In this capacity he is working to advance the company’s priorities on funding opportunities, legislation, regulatory matters, and policy, particularly with regard to the Congress, the Departments of Defense and Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, and key states.
Prior to joining Solazyme, Mr. Isaacs was Director of Government Relations for Hewlett-Packard Company and led the company’s office in Washington, D.C. At HP, he was responsible for directing the company's policy development, advocacy, and political programs before the Congress and the Executive Branch on a broad range of issues, including environment, energy and climate, technology policy, government procurement, intellectual property, tax, and trade. Mr. Isaacs previously worked on environmental policy for a national association of the information technology industry and practiced environmental law in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Isaacs received a B.A. from Tufts University and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.

Frederic Stoeckel
Vice President and General Manager Solazyme Health Sciences |
As vice president and general manager of Solazyme Health Sciences, Frederic Stoeckel manages Solazyme’s research & development and business initiatives in key markets such as cosmetics and nutraceuticals. With a deep background in personal care and cosmetics, Stoeckel is responsible for further developing and launching the company’s health sciences division, as well as exploring new areas for opportunity. He previously held two positions at L’Occitane and spent 10 years at L’Oreal Group in various positions.
As a managing director at L’Occitane, Stoeckel led the launch of Melvita, a certified organic French beauty brand in the U.S. market. Prior, he was vice president of marketing and merchandising for L’Occitane en Provence, where he managed the sales, public relations, marketing, media and retail efforts for 180+ stores, as well as the company’s Website. Stoeckel oversaw product launches, store openings and formed partnerships with Sephora, QVC, and Nordstrom.
Before L’Occitane, Stoeckel was with the L’Oreal Group in Paris, serving in various roles from product manager to vice president of marketing. In the latter position, Stoeckel was charged with marketing for all segments of the business, including fragrances, skincare, makeup, body care and sun care. Previous positions included managing the marketing, product design and merchandising for Lancome International skin care products.

Michael Golembieski
Senior Vice President and General Manager Nutritionals |
Michael Golembieski is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Nutritionals for Solazyme. Mr. Golembieski is responsible for building a global food and feed ingredient business for Solazyme’s renewable oils, purified microalgae, and microalgae extracts. Prior to joining Solazyme he served as Vice President of Global Strategy and Business Development for the SPLENDA® Sucralose ingredient division of Tate & Lyle, a $5.5 billon manufacturer and marketer of renewable food and industrial ingredients. In that role, Mr. Golembieski had broad responsibility for developing strategy and identifying growth opportunities in support of Tate & Lyle’s high performance sweetener platform. He was engaged in all aspects of business strategy and implementation for the business including pricing, market development, IP protection, and manufacturing platform optimization.
Mr. Golembieski has more than three decades of experience in finance, business, and strategy development in the food, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries, including a twenty one year career with Mallinckrodt’s medical imaging and respiratory products businesses as well as several years with Apath LLC, an early-stage biotechnology firm engaged in antiviral technology licensing and drug discovery.
Mr. Golembieski holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri/St. Louis, and is a certified public accountant.

Walter G. Rakitsky Ph.D.

Walter Rakitsky joined Solazyme as senior director of business and strategy in late 2007 after earning his M.B.A. in Entrepreneurial Management from The Wharton School.
Dr. Rakitsky has more than 25 years of experience in applied research and development, business development, business-to-business marketing, commercial development, and business management. Before joining Solazyme, he was vice president of commercial development for Advanced BioNutrition, a venture capital-backed company developing algae derived functional ingredients to improve animal health and nutrition. Dr. Rakitsky led the sales and marketing efforts to introduce algal biomass products rich in omega 3’s to the companion animal, aquaculture and terrestrial animal industries.
Prior to Advanced BioNutrition, Dr. Rakitsky spent 17 years at CP Kelco, a global manufacturer of ingredients for food, industrial, and oil field industries. While there, he founded the Kelco Biospecialties Group, which identified and developed new opportunities for fermentation products, developed and implemented the strategic direction of the Kelco Food Biopolymers business, and introduced new specialty ingredients to the food and industrial industries. Prior to these roles, Dr. Rakitsky had global accountability for technology development as director of Applied R&D for Kelco.
Before joining Kelco, Dr. Rakitsky managed the fuels R&D efforts for the OXCE Fuel Company, developed products for Nalco’s Mining and Mineral Processing Group, and collaborated on a chemicals from coal project at Occidental Petroleum.
Dr. Rakitsky received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Pennsylvania State University and his M.B.A. from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
