Jerry Fiddler, the principal of Zygote Ventures, has helped create and grow a number of companies, as CEO, director, chairman, investor and advisor. Mr. Fiddler is the founder of Wind River and was for 23 years its CEO and Chairman. Since its establishment in 1981 in Fiddler’s Berkeley garage, Wind River grew to become the leading provider of device software worldwide, with over $400M in annual sales, and market cap well over $1B. Its operating systems control devices are everywhere, from the commonplace, such as digital cameras and routers, to the exotic, such as the Mars Rovers. While at Wind River, Fiddler gained an international reputation as an expert in the design and implementation of real-time systems. Wind River was acquired by Intel in 2009. In addition to Solazyme Mr. Fiddler also sits on several other corporate boards, including Tensilica, Crossbow, and Servo. He has been on the boards of Wind River, Nanochip, db4o, and Axis Systems. He works actively both with students and in an advisory capacity at a number of universities, including University of California/Berkeley, Stanford, Wharton, and University of Illinois. He has been Foundation Capital executive-in-residence, and adjunct professor at UC Berkeley, teaching entrepreneurship and organizational behavior. He serves on the UC President’s advisory board on science and innovation. He is president of the foundation board of Chabot Space & Science Center, and a trustee of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, The Jazz School, and Call of the Sea. He is on the advisory board of Francis Copolla's zoetrope.com. He received a BA in music and photography, and an MS in computer science, both from University of Illinois. Jonathan Wolfson is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Solazyme, overseeing the management team and strategic direction of the company. Prior to Solazyme, Mr. Wolfson held a variety of positions in finance, business, and law. He was most recently the Vice President of Finance and Business Development for 7thOnline, a venture-backed supply chain software company, where he was responsible for overseeing legal issues, finance, and the development and implementation of corporate strategy, which resulted in annualized revenue growth of over 100% during his tenure. Previously, Mr. Wolfson was a co-founder and President and Chief Operating Officer of InvestorTree, a financial software and ASP services firm, where he was responsible for operations as well as obtaining major clients, including Fidelity Investments, AXA, Fiserv, Raymond James, and others. Mr. Wolfson also worked as an investment banker for Morgan Stanley, in the M&A department of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, and as a business/legal analyst for Triarc Companies. Mr. Wolfson holds J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from the NYU School of Law and the NYU Stern School of Business. Harrison Dillon is the President, Chief Technology Officer, and co-founder of Solazyme, overseeing technology strategy, intellectual property and legal affairs. His scientific training in the field of microbial genetics began in the Microbiology and Immunology Department at Emory University. His later research, including X-ray crystallography and quantitative trait loci characterization, was performed under the direction of Dr. Jean-Marc Lalouel, a Howard Hughes Investigator and Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Utah, where Dr. Dillon received his Ph.D. in genetics. Dr. Dillon formerly managed the biotechnology patent portfolio of the University of Utah in the University’s Technology Transfer Office. Dr. Dillon received a J.D. cum laude from Duke University School of Law and is licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the State Bar of California and has worked as an Associate in the Biotechnology Group at Townsend and Townsend and Crew, and has authored many articles in scientific, business, and legal journals. |
| Michael V. Arbige, Ph.D. Director |
Michael Arbige is the Executive Vice President of Technology and a member of the executive committee for Genencor International (www.genencor.com), a Danisco division. Dr. Arbige has served many roles since joining Genencor, including Vice President of Research, Vice President of Development, and Director of Fermentation and Process Recovery. Dr. Arbige began his professional career at the Environmental Protection Agency. He then joined the Genencor startup venture as one of its first employees. During his early tenure at Genencor, Dr. Arbige played a lead role in the development of the first series of recombinant and protein engineered protein products ever to enter the industrial marketplace. Since that time, Dr. Arbige has been involved in the commercialization of hundreds of protein based products, and has helped establish laboratory and production facilities around the world. Dr. Arbige has served in a number of advisory and editorial roles over the years and presently holds the position of Executive Director for the Bay Bio Organization. He is also a member of the Illinois Ethanol Research Advisory Board, and is Editor for the Industrial Reseach Institute. Dr. Arbige received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Rhode Island in 1977, followed by his Ph.D. in 1982 in the field of Microbial Physiology and Genetics from the University of New Hampshire. |

Dan Miller is the Managing Director of The Roda Group (www.rodagroup.com), and was previously the president of Ask Jeeves, Inc., a former affiliate company of The Roda Group. Mr. Miller co-founded the TCSI Corporation (now owned by Rocket Software), a leading provider of integrated software products and services for the global telecommunications industry. He served as Executive Vice President of TCSI, retiring in 1994, and on the Board of Directors of TCSI, retiring in 1997. Prior to TCSI, Mr. Miller was a systems engineer at Hughes Aircraft's Space and Communications Group, where he was responsible for designing communications payloads for commercial communications satellites. Mr. Miller received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, with distinction, from Cornell University, and his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He holds three patents in the areas of compression technology and wireless communications systems. Mr. Miller is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Chabot Space & Science Center, and is also a member of Cornell University's School of Electrical Engineering Advisory Board. |

William D. Lese is a co-founder and Managing Director of Braemar Energy Ventures (www.braemarenergy.com), a venture capital firm headquartered in New York City, focusing exclusively on investing in early to mid stage energy technology companies primarily in the US and Canada. He has more than 24 years of research, operating, and venture capital experience in the energy and environmental businesses. Prior to Braemar, he was a partner at Mantis Holdings, a venture capital firm focused on investing in environmental and energy efficiency companies. His past business development activities included managing a joint venture with Consolidated Edison Co., as well as developing and managing several power projects at Sithe Energies. In addition to serving on the board of Solazyme, Mr. Lese is also on the boards of Coaltek (www.coaltek.com), Utility Associates (www.utility.com), Ciris Energy (www.cirisenergy.com), and Renewable Energy Development, Inc.
